I've been thinking a lot about "manly" design since coming back to work for a publishing company who's target audience is mostly blue collar men. I'm doing ads, editorial layouts, branding, marketing for the Testosterone set. This XX trying to communicate to XY, but also not "design down" to this audience. They might be rough around the edges but they still are drawn to good design.
And I'm always on the hunt for what's now, but also what's next in design. When searching out manly design it's easy to find what examples of what the "Details" set would like, but what's new with "Popular Mechanics" crowd? This endless quest made me feel like waxing poetic. What is more manly than Haiku?
Oh Manly Design
Always must you be Bold,
Grunge, Decay / Never Pink?
